Asphodel is a 2D metroidvania that puts a demonic twist on the fluid platforming chase sequences of “Ori and the Blind Forest” and the tight combat of “Hollow Knight”.

Asphodel is a 2D metroidvania in which a small demon fights its way through a city in hell ruled by the seven deadly sins. The demon must steal a variety of upgrades from the sins before returning later to defeat them and eventually escape hell or conquer the city. The city is comprised of nine regions: the Wastes, Ruins, Lust, Wrath, Greed, Gluttony, Sloth, Envy and Pride. The game contains 7 upgrades for the player, six of which are gained during platforming challenges referred to as Chase Sequences.

At the end of the tutorial and in each of the Sin Regions, excepted Envy, the player can find a “Chase Sequence”. These sequences are timed platforming challenges that are intended to introduce the player to a new movement mechanic whilst also giving the player a glimpse of the boss of the region. Since these sequences are intended to introduce players to new movement mechanics, the challenges simple while the time limit of the sequence serves as the primary obstacle.
